Diabetes and Nutrition Education Services

Medical Associates of North Georgia is committed to giving you quality medical care and to educating you about your medical condition.  Diabetes is a serious chronic illness that needs daily attention from you, as well as frequent monitoring by your doctor.  Our goal is to keep you as healthy as possible and free of the long-term complications of diabetes.  In order to do this, we have put together a team of experts to help you learn how to live a long, healthy life with this disease.

Ellen Medved and Jackie Bush, R.D., C.D.E. head the diabetic and nutrition counseling and education programs, respectively.  These two ladies were able to successfully obtain ADA certification for Medical Associates to offer this unique service to its patients.  By participating in this program, you will learn self-management techniques to keep your blood sugars in control.

There are several tools available to control blood sugars:  meal planning, exercise, medication, and self-monitoring.  All these, and more, will be explained to you as you work your way through the program.  Our ADA Certified program not only includes education, but also follow-up attention; care is individualized according to personal needs.  Our goal is for you to be in charge of the diabetes so the diabetes cannot be in charge of you!

Once you have been seen by a physician and referred to our program, the following steps are included in our Diabetes Education Program:

  • Initial visit with Diabetes Nurse Educator, Ellen Medved.

  • Visit with Nutritionist, Jackie Bush, R.D., C.D.E.

  • Series of three classes about diabetes self-care

  • Follow-up visit with Diabetes Nurse or Nutritionist

  • Annual visit with Diabetes Nurse

  • Continuing follow-up by your physician
